St. Mary Cathedral

Built in 1911-1913, this Gothic Revival-style building was designed by Edwyn A. Bowd for the congregation of St. Mary Catholic Church, founded in 1866, and became the seat of the Diocese of Lansing when it was created in 1937. The building is clad in rough-hewn stone with a gabled red terra cotta tile roof, stone buttresses, gothic arched bays, rose windows, stained glass windows, front towers of varying heights with belfries featuring louvers and crenellated parapets a semi-circular rear apse, and gothic arched front entrance portals. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. Today, the building remains in use as St. Mary Cathedral, the seat of the Diocese of Lansing.
